CHAKRA CRYSTALS

Some crystals work with more than one chakra. The more vibrant crystals will energize a chakra and softer ones gently unblock and calm the energy centres.


The root or base chakra : RED

DIVINATORY SET OF CRYSTALS

You can use any crystal in divination as long as it is a rgular size (about that of a medium count). Choose tumbled crystals that are not brittle and that do not have jagged edges that would scratch the other crystals.
You can start with as few as eleven. One for each of the basic colours.

In time, you can add different shades of the basic colours and various stone types.
However, many or few crystals you use, the questioner will always intuitively choose the crystals that will answer his or her question.

BIRTHSTONES

The concept of twelve different stones was found shown on a breastplate (excavated from a tomb dating from about 400 BCE) that was worn by the high priest of Memphis in Anceient Egypt. Thereafter, the Hebrews adopted the idea, assigning a stone to each of the twelve tribes of Isreal, which their high priest wore in four rows.
The tradition evolved, with gems or crystals being assigned to the twelve angels, then the twelve apostles and finally the twelve months.
Birthstones cam into fashion in the eighteenth century.
Birthstones are worn to attract good luck and happiness and over time, become a repository of positive energies. Therefore, you may wish to have a special ring, necklace or belt buckle containing your birthstone that you can wear for special occasions. The stone will become infused with love and joy and act as a talisman.

Preservation of Dzi Beads

During an interview conducted by Miss Sheng Mei`en of Cha Yu Hu (Tea and Teapot Magazine ) in early July 1992, I explained briefly how Gzi beads should be preserved. The following is an elaborate version of the points I made:

1. Wear the Gzi beads as frequent as you can. This allows them to absorb your body warmth and interact with the magnetic field of your body.

2. If you have many Gzi beads, place them on an altar table for better care and appreciation. Rub them lightly with your fingers to add warmth and brightness to them.

3. When stringing Gzi beads, part the beads with soft quality spacers to avoid abrasion or crashing. The latter will cause the beads to crack.

4. Before bathing ,take the Gzi beads off and placed them on an altar table or desk. Avoid wetting the beads too often otherwise the string will break easily. Besides, dampness is harmful to Gzi beads.

5. When changing clothes, handle the beads carefully. Do not drop them onto the ground otherwise they will break or crack.

6. Pay attention to your behavior. If you feel that what you are going to do might be disrespectful, take the beads off temporarily.

7. Protect the Gzi beads you wear. Do not lend them to others without a good reason or let others touch them.

8. When participating in various congregations, invite the Rinpoche (spiritual teachers) to empower your Gzi beads.

9. If any one of the Gzi beads you wear is damaged during an accident, replace it with another desirable piece.

10. Take care of your Gzi wholeheartedly and do not doubt them. Then you will know what they will bring you.

Myths and Legends The Origin of Gzi beads

The sites yielding Gzi beads and the circumstances under which these beads were found are heavily invested with mythological and legendary elements.Given below are legends associated with the origin of Gzi beads:

1. Plankton from the Tethys Sea

In very ancient times,the land on which now stands Tibet was a vast inland sea known as Tethys Sea.Gzi were microscopic organisms drifting in the sea.In their original form,they were like mollusks and conches with a fleshy body protected by a shell.They could move about freely.Later,as a result of prodigious geological upheaval,the seabed was thrust skyward to become the Himalayas.The plankton died,their flesh dried up and their shells turned into Gzi beads.

2. Painted stones from India

A couple dwelling in the Himalayas painted designs onto a unique kind of stone from India to create Gzi beads.Since painting such stones involved elaborate skill and learning such skill was extremely difficult,the skill was lost after the death of the couple.

3.Meteorites from outer space

Meteorites fell from outer space onto the fields were refined and tempered into Gzi beads by yogic practitioners.

4.Snake-like living things

Gzi are living things that could move about like a snake. When they are found and touched, they will stop moving and turn into a string of Gzi beads. Legend alleges that where horses rest with their legs thrown up to the sky, there are Gzi beads nearby.

5.Appear in fields and in the dune of cattle and sheep

Gzi beads are ancient relics buried deep underground but geological movements in the course of time expose them on the earth surface. They are picked up by farmers during fieldwork. There are also Tibetan nomads trying to search the dune of the animals they grazed in the meadows in hope of finding Gzi beads.

6.Petrified insects, or the crystallized fossil of the sacred Khyang bird

7.Insects that can fly, run and crawl

Lamas use their long sleeves to strike down those flying and running insects which then harden into Gzi beads. As for those crawling on the ground, men will throw sand onto them to immobilize them. Then they will harden into Gzi beads. If the sand fails to hit them, they will disappear.

8.Gzi meadows

There are several Gzi meadows in Tibet.It is said that people with merits would see them flying above the meadow.After being captured they will turn into fossils.

9.Weapon of Asura

Asura belongs to one of the six classes of living beings.Its abode is deep in the ocean to the north of Mt.Sumera,the center of the Buddhist world.Asura always acts against the Sakyamuni Buddha and does not listen to the Buddha’s words.Therefore it is considered a non-god, non-divine and non-human being with a bellicose character.Gzi beads are its weapons.

10.Precious jewels of the gods

Tibetans believe that Gzi beads are the precious jewels of the gods who discard them to the human world when they become blemished. This explains why it is extremely difficult to find Gzi beads in perfect condition.

11.Gzi come in hoards

Such a legend circulates among the Tibetans in the Kham region. One day, A man herding yaks accidentally found a hoard of beautiful Gzi in the mountain. Many Gzi crawled around in their “nest”. He tried to capture them all but failed to do so .He then ran back to his village to fetch help. Later, he returned to find that except for a few Gzi, the rest had managed to escape from the nest. They could not find the lost Gzi despite repeated searches.

12.Gzi stream in Ngari

Legend alleges that there were Gzi beads flowing continuously like a stream from a mountain slope near Rutog in Ngari.One day, a wicked woman “cast an evil eye” at the mountain and the flow of Gzi immediately stopped. It is said that the spot can still be recognized. It is marked by characteristic black and white stripes like those on a Gzi bead.

13.Magic beads cast by Vajravarahi Buddha

During those early years when Tibet was overwhelmed by severe epidemic, Tibetans were plunged into an abyss of misery and they led a very hard life. Fortunately, the compassionate Vajravarahi Buddha came to relieve them by dropping from the sky magic Gzi beads. Anyone who were predestined to obtain them would be relieved from disease, calamities and bad luck.

History of the Tibetan Dzi beads

Dzi made its first appearance during the period between 3000 BC to 1500 BC, in ancient India where Aryans inhabited. People at that time used to pray piously for gods’ blessing. They painted incantations, totems and other symbolic patterns in the ancient Veda (origins of various patterns on today’s Dzi) on stones to sublimate their spirit. Veda recorded, seriously tortured by geographical environment and natural calamities, people at that time prayed to gods for blessing and help, and naturally, “Dzi” emerged. Meanwhile, they intermingled various medicines with the motif of incantations and totems into stones in hope to get blessing and help from gods.

　　

Bead pronounces as DZI in Tibetan language, meaning beauty、authority and wealth, and reads as "Meiziga " in Sanskrit. However, it was piously used as a sacrifice to Buddha gods in the 15th year of Zhenguan (641AD) for Tang Taizong when Wencheng princess married Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo, Wencheng took one statue of Buddha from India as dowry. Later, this statue was housed in Jokhang Temple in Lhasa studded with over hundreds of Dzi Beads by Tibetan people, including three nine-eyed Dzi Beads, and scores of three-eyed, two–eyed, treasure bottle Dzi beads (also called immortality bottle Dzi), tiger-stripe Dzi, etc. At present, it is exhibited as an oblation in the Jokhang Temple hall in Lhasa. Historical records suggest that the grassland channel between Yuyuan and Tibet was an important approach for culture exchanges between Tibet and northern grassland. This channel has already offered service as early as in the 5th century BC. Long history, beautiful and mysterious legends along with Tibetan people’s piety for Dzi bead make Dzi bead passed on from generation to generation and an apple in people’s eyes.

Okenite is an unusual mineral. It frequently forms "cottonball" clusters where the crystals are so thin they look like tiny fibers. The clusters are composed of straight, radiating, thread thin, crystals. These clusters can make for very attractive specimens and often accompany many fine and rare minerals such as apophyllite, gyrolite and many of the zeolites. Some volcanic bubbles called vesicles can be lined with delicate tufts of okenite and these are sometimes called "Okenite Geodes". They form a mesmerizing crystal wonderland like landscape. One note of caution, the clusters seem to bring out an urge in people to touch the fine fibers and to "test" the minerals softness. Discourage and refrain from this as the crystals are very delicate and once touched, are never the same again.

The apache tear, a variety of obsidian, is volcanic glass and is usually found in a vitreous form of black, black/clear, black/smokey/clear, black/mahogany, and occasionally black/violet or black/green. The shape is somewhat spherical with conchoidal markings. The following properties are in addition to those listed in the obsidian section.

The apache tear has been traditionally considered to be one of the tears of Native American women, mourning for the warriors driven from a cliff by the cavalry.

It has been used to comfort in times of grief. It metaphorically “sheds” the tears for one in times of sorrow, allowing for true understanding of the situation of distress in order to provide insight and acceptance. It allows ones comfort zone to “remain at large”.
